This is a topic to discuss the music for it.

I've been having a discussion with Chris (skidz/dipset) and he says he can mix some pretty cool stuff. We've thought about what kind of music we'd like for the game, and we settled on orchestral rock. Orchestral for the good guy angelic people, and rock for the bad guy robotic people.

What? It’s a good song I downloaded the Assassins creed trailer months ago and kept it because of the song.

Nah it's not the right theme for our style. We want a heavy, epic sounding piece. Guitars and orchestral arrangements

Steve, i'm going to download some music creating software that chris has recommended me, and i'm gonna have a go with that. Also I could get Joe M, David and Brad to have a go at making some stuff, providing we can get somewhere to record it. Joe is good enough for the guitar, however they dont cover the kinda stuff we need so maybe just get joe and greg to do the lead guitar and bass, and I can synth all the other parts. The only problem with this plan is time and understanding of these programmes. Theres always garage band on my dads mac...

Seeing as Chris has dropped out pretty much, because he said it doesnt interest him, we're going to have to do the music ourselves, unless we can get an outside source helping like a band, but that costs money.

The programmes needed are Pro Tools, Acid Pro, Nexus2, and Adobe Audition. If you could get them on your dads work or something, that would save me the hassle of getting them illegally

I can ask Ben about them as well, see if he can get a copy from his work or Uni which would help greatly.

The first peice of music Tim suggested fits the bill nicely. With a few teeny adjustments a few somethings like that would be perfect. Also, I like the general theme of the second piece for more ominous bits.
I like the idea of something orchestral with a guitar added sounds good. It needs to be epic but also energetic and fun to listen too while you play.

The assasins creed music u suggested isnt bad as a theme music.. but I don't think its right for this game. It's too sleek and subtle- we need gritty, powerful, epic and inspiring. I'm thinking something more the operatic peice on Halo one to lend atmosphere to a guitar piece.

Also, can I clear one thing up.
I know I've suggested a lot about having an assassin as the main charachter and that it shud be stealth based, and I've said about the Templars as a faction, but I'm not suggesting we do a rip of assassins creed. The stealth kills were cool the first time round, and the graphics are awesome, but the gameplay was **** and the endless combats are boring. It soon got insanely dull and repetitive, so the last thing I want is a rip off that game.

This is what I meant when I said the operatic bit in halo and the guitar. I'm sure you know what I'm on about anyway but just in case.


Also, the assassins creed music you suggested plays at the end of the bourne ultimatum, i think. Haven't seen it in a while. Strange, but possibly true.

I want something as close to the first youtube link as possible. Maybe even get that guy to help.

wud be awesome if we can get that guy to help. But if we did manage to get a game company backing us up they can employ orchestras and everything specially.
Also I think soundtrack is something we can leave till later. We need to establish what the game actually is before we start finding music to fit in. Though, the first music does fit well with my imaginings of the game.

actually, the more I listen to the Lonely Souls music the more I think it could be awesome with a trailer for the game, but not for during the actual game itself. Also, the intro minus the singing could easily then merge into a different piece of music, for during the opening cinematic.

That could also work well as an accompaniment to the trailer.

.Hmmm. I know this isn't related to music but I thought a muay thai(rope fist fighting)combat style for close combat wud be awesome. It could easily be adapted to work with swords or daggers or fist blades. Watch a film called Ong Bak to see wat I mean. Its a kind of merger between parkour and a pub brawl. Obviously this wud only work in a 3D game with a major company doing the programming. The character cud have blades on his knees and elbows to make this even more fun.

If its already been used for a trailer, you cant use it again for another trailer. End of story.

All those songs are by bands. We dont want a rock track. We want an epic orchestral piece with some guitar riffs working with the orchestral parts, just like the songs in the OP. Remember, the music we're going to use for this will be original pieces, not just songs we've asked bands if we can use. Hopefully we'll find a good arrangement for the music.

Im just trying to suggest a general feel for the music, rather than songs themselves. I'm thinking use orchestral rock for both templar and scourge, but make it heavier rock for scourge and more orchestral elements for templars.

I dont want the Templars backing music to be entirely orchestral because:
the templars aren't cissies. They are ruthless people who want to wipe the scourge off the face of the wooniverse. No self respecting none gay person wants to play as a bird winged god-hugger who prances along rooftops to the sound of an orchestra. The Templars have to be equally cool as scourge to play as, they just have a different style and different outlook.

I think that we do need a piece of existing music for the trailer. Its the done thing. I'm not sure way, but I think its a kind of subconscious thing: person sees a trailer and hears a bit of music being played. Everytime they hear that music or something very similar it reminds them of the game. I think the main reason is that the accompaniment to the trailer has to be awesome and we cant get something that awesome for ours without a) stealing some existing music or b) hiring a band. And hiring a decent band costs moneyyyy.

If i'm going to be honest, I can imagine the very first youtube link I posted as being the trailer song. Starts off with a slowness to it which could be some pan shots of the city, with the character standing around. Then some clips of cutscenes as the beat builds up and the riffs come into it, and then quick cutting of an epic battle near the end.

hmmm. Actually yeah that wud work.

Jacob, get in contact with the guy; just basically asking him if it's alright to use the song and explain the premise and our situation. Try and get an MP3 of the raw sound as well.

Has any1 heard of Abney Park, steampunk band? Airship Pirate, Sleep Isabella, Wrong Side and She are all fairly good. Also i now kind of get the government factions thing cos i been watchin loads of films like v for vendetta etc.
